Aprons, Apple Pie and Alias

I rang in the New Year in style.

Boone, NC style that is.

On the very first day of 2009 I flew to meet the Walkers and gain a little understanding of these "blue mountains" that Claire has been raving about.

Day one starts off well. Joey and Claire surprise me by taking an early flight from CA to Charlotte and meeting me by my gate. I was prepared to wait for a few hours for them to get in!! We are just so good at planning these crazy adventures!

We head up to Boone, a mere 2 hour journey into the hills. I lounge in the back of Andre the Su-bah-roo while we catch up. The trip has an intermission at Bo Jangles. A yummy NC fast food joint. Fried chicken is good in every state.

Joey kindly gives up his spot in the bed and Claire and I relive the old days by sleeping side by side. We awake to the sound of sizzling bacon and toasty biscuits! My favorite kind of morning. Now, I don't know if Joey was trying to impress me or not, but it worked!

We ate in our pj's and then took account of the situation at hand. Claire and I had both been sick for a few days; I was pretty numb with all the Nyquil in my system, but she was getting worse. So what to do? Take best friend and husband to the doctor with you, of course! After meeting with Dr. Man who made Claire take her shirt off and several trips to Walgreens, we were safely back on the couch with meds and BOTH Batman movies. I think Joe wants to be Batman, Claire was shocked I had not seen them and I just love a good sequel.

They were so great to help me get caught up on all this pop culture I had missed out on the past two years. Batman is awesome! Sidenote: That Joker guy was really creepy. Now I can see why everyone was talking about Heath Ledger for so long. I'll always remember the good old days of him singing on the bleachers and playing paintball.

Oh, and lest I forget---Joey went out to get our lunch. I don't think I moved one muscle for about 6 hours straight. Delightful.

After one whole day nearly spent in our pajamas we were ready for more adventure the second day. We drove through some really pretty area that I can't remember the name of now and then hopped out of the car and went for a hike. I love the mountains! It was so good to be outside and see these two in their element.

We headed back to the apartment with one little stop at an antiques market, cuz Claire knows me so well. :) When we were back in Boone, several noteworthy things occurred.

1. Claire taught me how to make an apple pie from scratch.
2. I wore a confiscated Starbucks apron- instantly increasing my cool points.

And last but not least:
3. I witnessed Joey Walker watch his first episode of Alias--ever.

You know he couldn't be married to the fanatic formerly known as Claire Borne for long before he too would be addicted. I think we watched about 5 episodes before I left and when I called them the next week, they were on season 3. Sydney Bristow now has a place in Joe's heart too!

Not a bad way to start the year, huh?!?

Walkers, thanks for letting me hang out with you two! I so loved getting to see you love and serve each other! I would sit on a couch in my pajamas or climb a mountain with you guys any day!

(Just look at those matching hats!)
