Ponderings...

Ok, now just a few thoughts on the above photo.

Is this normal for a duck? Do they prefer mohawks to other more conservative hairstyles? Is this duck just a rebel who is expressing himself? If this is not his own doing, how in world did this happen? Was it a freak accident? Were any other duck-hairs affected in the same way? Is he the cool duck of his herd, or the artsy one, does he have a girlfriend with similar self-expressive qualities?

Feel free to respond.

The ornithologist: It is just a variety of the common mallard, Anas platyrhynchos. This breed is actually born with a constant bad-hair-day-feeling.

I don't know what to think about ol' cjh there... but I bet that duck does have a girlfriend.

I love how your mind works Sarah. Not sure if I know how German minds work though.

One must consider the possibility that this is an older bird that has chosen to try to regain some lost youthfulness by way of a toupee. Of course those things can slip out of place, especially when one is in the water. On another note, does anyone else find it somewhat troubling that a chick is interested in a duck?

I had not thought of the possiblity of a toupee. Poor duck, he is self- conscious and no one warned him of the hazards of swimming with a hair piece. Plugs might be the way to go for this little guy.

how thankful am i that someone gets my sense of humor?!? thank you Daddy for the best comment ever!

In response to dhv's question---"does anyone else find it somewhat troubling that a chick is interested in a duck?"---------

After spending a weekend with all 6 chicks (plus 4 orphans picked up along the way), the answer is a resounding NO!

I can see D.O. being mistaken for an orphan but as for Stephanie, Mikey and myself orphan may be a little harsh.

I'm trying to change my photo per request of my friends' parents. This comment is really only to see if it's working or not.
