Claire is WED Walker!!!

Claire Borne is no longer!

It's true, folks, she's now CLAIRE ELISE WALKER! She's married!

The wedding was a blast. We enjoyed the time together and with old friends, but mostly it was just awesome to celebrate Joey and Claire's future together. Praise God for bringing them together and for the years ahead.

Claire's shower!

chicks set up camp

I've been meaning to do this for several weeks now.

I apologize for my tardiness (but don't I say that everytime?).

On October 6, we chicks celebrated Claire's upcoming weddedness. It was a BLAST! We know how to party!

Claire and her cookie dough

I've written about it more extensively at Jessica Lynn.

Please visit.

I guess us having our own blogs was a little bit counteractive to our goal of keeping posted here, but I still love that we have this blog - even if no one checks it :)

Thanks for those of you who are here!

I broke the rule

Sarah, Hay, and Lauren came to visit me for my bridal shower and I forgot to post about it! I broke the rules, Jessica, and I am so sorry! Having them in Lafayette for the shower just absolutely made my summer. I hate that I am forever away from all of you, but you are all in my heart and in my prayers. I miss you deeply and am counting down the days until we are all together again with Brookie!

Love love love you all!

My Little Brother is Married

Ok, so he's not really my LITTLE brother, but he is my younger brother! We (the Haralson's) are so so happy to welcome Ms. Jenna Fagen into our family. I am so happy she is finally a Haralson too! It feels like she has been part of our family for a long time.

It was the most beautiful wedding I have ever been to.

Here are a few pics from our weekend in Colorado Springs.

Claire in AUSTIN!!

That's right! I spent an INCREDIBLE Independence weekend with the future Mrs. Walker. Claire and her future husband Joey came in Andre the Subaru to visit me in ATX for 4th of July weekend!

Also Jill the Thrill came in from Houston!

We had so much fun! We played on the lake, barbequed bratwurst, cliff jumped, photographed & saw awesome fireworks!

I must admit, seeing one chick at a time makes me miss "us" a lot. I still dream of "one day" when we'll all live near each other raising our little families.

I saw her too!

Because of the rules...I must let everyone in chick world know that I, too, saw Claire Borne after she got engaged.
As I think about how "random" the timing was, I just am so thankful to the Lord.
He worked it out so that during the 24 hours I had in Lewisville--Claire and Joe would get engaged and I could see my sweet bunkmate and bunkmate's boy.

Here's the proof:

(My shirt says "cheer" on it so I was trying to show it off to the clearly exuberant Claire)

(Scream, scream, scream, big hug, scare Joe, scream some more....)

(THE ring. Soooo Claire.)

Thank you Joe for ticking her off and surprising her SO GOOD all in one day.
That just makes me smile.

Love you Claire Borne (soon-to-be) Walker!!

A Weekend of Faces

This post is certainly overdue to say the least. I suppose I was procrastinating due to the lack of decent photos I took this weekend. However, since I made the rule, I must follow through even if it is a few weeks late.

My good friends Ali and Danny SANABRIA were married in Lewisville on May 17. Needing an excuse to go see my Dallas chicks, I packed up and made a weekend of it. The wedding was down the road from Claire's casa so I stayed with my soon to be engaged BF.

Before the wedding on Saturday The Heltons hospitably fed me lunch (I find myself mooching meals off of my married friends far too often lately - THANK YOU!)

After which Lauren and I squinted at the sun in our attempts to identify whether or not there is a man in the sun.

The Heltons smiled for a photo next, but Brice was rushing me as he was anxious to return to his target practice. Who knew he was into killing hummingbirds? Watch it with that gun, Brice!

Sunday morning Claire and I were able to grab breakfast with Mrs. Prothro before I left town. The following photo displays our reaction to hearing that Obama clenched the democratic nomination.

That's all for now. I do think it's time for our dear Miss Borne to update us on some bridal outings. I'm certain she's spent some quality "chick time" planning.

Until next time.

ROCK'n TX

Two chicks were together this weekend.
So here is a blog.

We were also joined by our friend Jenn--she's fun!

We made the drive from Dallas and Austin to Katy, TX to attend the wedding of two very old friends--Ian and Gina ROCK!

A few very "chick" things occurred:

We hugged and talked in "baby language".

We got ready. (Chicks, you know how this goes--I am ready first and is rushing the other two out of the hotel room! Some things will never change.)

We rushed out the door (see above).

We made it to the wedding with about 5 minutes to spare. (All we cared is that we made it before Gina walked down the aisle, and it was a success!)

We laughed a lot.

We danced even more.

We were pooped by 9pm.

It was a fabulous wedding--Gina was beautiful and Ian was..well handsome (is that awkward to say??).

Jenn was a fabulous edition to the weekend and as you can see below would have fit it just perfectly with the 6 of us!

One thing that must be noted because I (Claire) am writing this blog under orders from Jess.

We woke up the next morning and went to our fabulous continental breakfast and was greeted with this.

I'm not even going to comment--you all know how I feel.

To my chicks.

I took this photo with you in mind, my chicks.

This post will be short.

I want to make a chick suggestion.

As eaglepass.blogspot.com has changed over the last few years it's purpose has gone undefined.
While its updates, though infrequent, are always enjoyed, I believe it's time to make some (really "a") guideline/requirement! I know you love that.

Since we will undoubtably continue gathering together, I suggest that when 2 or more chicks are gathered a photo must be taken and a blog entry posted about the events. This way posts will be consistant and all will enjoy reading (even if "all" only includes B, C, H, J, L & S).

Plus, the fact that 3 of you are in the Dallas area means that those of us outside the metroplex miss out on some exciting get-togethers. This way we will all stay informed, and enjoy the activities from afar.

So...what do you think? You in?

Oh, the places you will go little fleece!

The chick paraphernalia has traveled many places over the years.
Cali.
Thailand.
East Texas.
The bayou of Louisiana.

The items of clothing that have stories of their own are legendary.
My roommates in Italy know and understand and love my "chick socks."
Hayley wore her "chick shirt" on the plane ride from DFW to FLR.

But the tops on (probably) our list of memorabilia: the fleece.
These little guys have lived good lives. Monogrammed and all.

Another episode in the life of a well-loved fleece: The one with the Tuscan bike ride.

For the other half of the chicks who couldn't join us--this is for you.

Remember when...

...our parents sang us the 6 chicks song at our graduation party to tune of "The Brady Bunch" theme song?

In case you were not there or you forgot the words, here they are for your enjoyment. Make sure that you sing them in your head to "The Brady Bunch" theme song.

Here's the story, Of Claire and Sarah,
Of Lauren, Hayley, Jessica and Brooke.
They were co-eds, each on their own,
To Aggieland they looked.

Here's the storyOf 6 lovely ladies,
Who all, we're sure, were just a bit homesick.
But they soon would all come together
And before we knew it they were the Six Chicks.

The Six Chicks, The Six Chicks
This is how they became the Six Chicks.

A few short years ago they all left high school.
As anxious parents waved good-bye and cried,
They all headed out to College Station
Pumped full of Aggie Pride.

That whole freshman year was quite a struggle
With roommates, cafeterias and dorms.
The Chicks were spread out all over campus.
The bus became the norm.

Next came houses and apartment living.
The Zone or Walton was the place to start.
One was even a Carnation Cutie.
They were closer to each other yet apart.

The Six Chicks, The Six Chicks
This is how they became the Six Chicks

Then one day they had an inspiration!
It all began with 6 parent phone calls.
A truly hair-brained scheme to live together
In a 2 bathroom house for them all!

All of the parents were invited
To inspect the future nest of the Chicks.
So they came, and the Chicks were all excited.
The house on Eagle Pass would not be nixed!

The Six Chicks, The Six Chicks
This is how they became the Six Chicks

Soon came "the Boys " and their Prank Wars,
And the game of one-upmanship began.
But they did not realize with whom they battled,
And the Chicks finished with the upper hand.

Then came the trips to all their home town
Where their bond of friendship stretched out to include
Parents, siblings, grandparents and others,
And so the Chick family grew.

And of course there was “A Simple Glimpse”,
Which we checked religiously come high or low,
For the Chicks were always up to something.
The blog became our way to know.

Two years later,The party's over.
Their futures they are anxious to start.
But the bonds of Eagle Pass will never leave them,
Locked forever in each precious Chick’s heart.

The Six Chicks, The Six Chicks
Now you know how they became the Six Chicks.

Easter Mems

Happy Easter, World (should that be capitalized? It is the only one of its kind)!

On this day there are so many things that I am thankful for, the greatest of which is the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, because of which my sins are forgiven and I will spend eternity in Paradise with my KING.

Incidentally my entire family (that is the extended kind) spent the holiday in Hawaii - WITHOUT ME - which left sister and myself in ATX to celebrate. Therefore, I spent this weekend photographing several Easter egg hunts. I work for a children's home, and, let's just say there are LOTS of sad would-be mother chickens due to the way we celebrate this holiday.

While each hunt was unique, they all left me thinking about one very special Easter Egg Hunt. THE GREAT DARK HUNT OF 2005 was the one I remembered. Spent with my chicks&friends in college, it will go down in the books. This post is officially dedicated to those pictured above. Girls, guys, I really do love each one of you. I'm so thankful for the gift of friends and the memories made. I love that there are memories of "us" attached to each holiday.

So...love you! Happy Easter. Thanks, Brooke, for our midnight madness Easter Egg Hunt.

AND

I'm so thankful that I get to spend eternity in Heaven with you all due to our Father's sacrifice.

Revamped.

For those of you who aren't new to this six chicks blog (I expect there are few) you will notice some changes. As a sign of my comittment to this blog, I've decided to update. Thanks to my friend Derrick for the header design and for a job that allows me time in front of a computer, I was able to work on some necessary improvements, and the blog is all new.

I feel it unnecessary to include a photo in this post as all I could think to include was a photo of the blog itself - which seemed too strange even for myself. I thought about including a virtual tour of the changes, but decided that anyone reading was educated enough to explore and discover all without accompaniment (that is assuming they are even interested). Enjoy the new and improved...

still trying to figure out when it was vamped,

Age is Beauty!

One of my favorite people turns 80 on Wednesday. John William Schmale! This past weekend my family traveled to grandma and grandpa's house. As long as I can remember we have made the 14 hour drive annually. We argue some, sleep a lot and read books on the long drive. Mom has always read to dad as he drove all that way and fussed at him when his eyelids got heavy. He never would share the driver's seat.

Fortunately this weekend WE FLEW! I can only remember one other time in my whole childhood that the 5 of us flew together. It sure was easier to fly into St Louis, rent a car and drive only an hour and a half down to small (or should I say TINY ) Fredericktown, MO.

The occasion was magnificent! Surprising Grandpa with our arrival was our lofty plan. While he wasn't surprised (Grandma (who's got the flu) asked him to clean the basement bathroom "in case anyone came for his party and had to stay at their house"), Gramps was still excited to see us.

Incidentally, celebrating 80 years is a BIG deal in the Schmale family. Grandma and Grandpa hosted 70 guests in the quaint house that my dad and his little brother grew up in. With an open bar, a huge cake and catered appetizers my geriatric friends were satisfied.

I was greeted by dozens of strangers who remembered me from my childhood. The following are just a few of memories made.

My grandpa (front right) is the oldest of 10 kids. His siblings seldom see one another or talk each other for that matter. I was so excited that 4 of them made it to the party (front left is a spouse). Can you believe it? These are all SCHMALES!

Two of the Schmale brothers. These are my great uncles - Charlie and Bob. Boy did they tell me stories - tryin to rag on their big brother on his 80th birthday.

From left: Sister Rachel, Granny (mom's stepmother), Papa (mom's dad) - both also live in tiny Fredericktown, and way cool 16-year old brother Ben. Apparently Rachel didn't care that Granny had something real important to tell her.

The lovely Mark and Julie Schmale (dad and mom), back in their hometown 31 years later.
Rachel and Papa - I just thought this photo was too good not to post.
All in all - TERRIFIC WEEKEND! I sure do love family - especially the old ones. AND...I've promised to work on planning the first ever Schmale family reunion for Grandpa and his siblings summer '09. We'll see how that goes.

Scouts Honor.

I told the girls at our outstanding chick reunion that I would be better about updating the blog at this "new stage in my life."

Because of our distance, time difference, full-time jobs, smashing social schedules and straight up new lives it is tough for us "catch up" as regularly as we would like. So here is my New Years resolution (only it's not really a new years resolution because, I actually hate those.): I, Jessica Schmale, do solemnly swear to update the blog more regularly than has been done in the past. (Note: this is a "cake" resolution. Incidentally the bar hasn't been set very high).

Unfortunately for you, reader, this may mean that you have a decision to make. Do you really want to be in the head of Jessica Schmale? It is a scary place sometimes - often hard to discern, sort through and understand. While I wish I could promise that in writing it may be easier to interpret, I make no promises. Often my brain runs faster than my spoken words...one can only imagine what this does to the written words. Are you up for it?

So this is it! My pledge. My promise. My resolution (I've buckled). Get ‘em, 2008!

An update.

A couple weeks ago I began a blog about our Chick reunion. Unfortunately, I'm not really good at completion. The blog would have started like this:

We did it! WE did it! And by "we" I mean 6 we's!

It would have had a couple of photos and given a few details our our time together. Since this post is long overdue and since our individual chick bloggers have already reported on the matter, I will simply link you to their websites. Please choose Brooke, Claire or Sarah for update on our LOVELY rendezvous. While it was short and sweet, it was a blast to spend time together. As all three of them said (I believe) it feels like no time has passed at all.
